Winter is setting in across the UK with nights drawing in, freezing temperatures and adverse weather conditions.

For landlords all over the country it is an important time to ensure that their property is fully protected and the National Landlords Association (NLA) has offered some helpful advice to people leasing houses over this period.

According to a report by the organisation, burst pipes account for a third for claims on houses in the winter months and landlords should look to seek measures that will help stop these ‘freezing’ related grievances occurring.

Officials stated that landlords need to ensure that all pipes are adequately insulated as well as giving the tenant an emergency telephone number should anything go awry over winter.

Steve Barnes, broking manager NLA Property Insurance, said: “Landlords should make sure their tenants are aware of how to correctly set thermostats, switch off utility supplies and know what to do in the event of an emergency.”
