Parents willing to pay more for student accommodation

Parents are now taking more of a role in the accommodation their children use during their time at university.

Marcus Roberts, director of student investment and development at Savills, said that parental expectations are now changing in terms of the type and quality of housing their children live in.

He explained that parents are now willing to pay slightly higher rents for their son or daughter to access better housing
According to Mr Roberts, parents believe better accommodation which will be “more conducive” to a top degree at the end of their studies.

The greater role parents are having on their children’s’ accommodation is leading to a rise in the quality of homes and rental prices close to university campuses.

Ray Withers, chief executive of Property Frontiers, recently said that student housing is a proven and successful investment choice.

He noted that Liverpool student accommodation is one of the most popular and lucrative markets due to its double digit returns.
