Landlords urged to boost understanding of regulations
The complicated rules and regulations associated with putting a property on the rental market are often misunderstood by new landlords, which can lead to a range of problems.
Tessa Shepperson of landlordlaw.co.uk said that those who know the law and comply with regulations correctly will be fine in the property rental market.
She noted landlords who are ignorant of the rules can get themselves into difficulties.
“You do need to learn about your legal rights and obligations. Landlords are deemed to know these, and ignorance of the law is never a defence or a valid excuse,” she explained.
It is important for landlords to be aware of the rules and regulations surrounding evicting a tenant from a property if they fall into arrears.
This is particularly crucial at the moment as there is a shortage of good properties, meaning landlords can charge higher rents, which is proving to be a struggle for some tenants.
