Landlords will suffer from delayed student loan payments
Thousands of student in England are still waiting to receive their student loans and grants weeks into the start of term.
At the start of the month 119,000 students with approved funding applications were still awaiting to receive their loans. A further 23,000 applications were still being processed and 35,000 students were being asked to provide more information.
The huge backlog is said to be caused by the increased number of applicants this year due to the recession and the large number of students starting university in 2009.
Students are struggling to pay their bills for expenses such as rent, food and books and are being put under pressure from the universities to pay their tuition fees. It is proving to be very stressful for many students who are relying on parents and overdraft facilities.
Private landlords are among those who are affected by the delayed payments to students. Some students were depending on the money in order to pay their rent and now they have not received their money landlords are suffering to.
Private landlords are urged to take out a legal protection and rent guarantee insurance policy to protect themselves against loss of rent payments. For more information, please visit Discount Landlord Insurance.
