Scottish landlords encouraged to sign up to TDP scheme

November 8th, 2012

Landlords around Scotland are being reminded to sign up to the Tenancy Deposit Protection (TDP) scheme before the upcoming deadline.

Those leasing out property have until November 13th to register on the TDP initiative but officials have maintained that this does not just apply for current tenants and that landlords taking on more people should provide them with these details to ensure that their deposit is safe.

Property118.com warns that if landlords do not take up the option of registering on the TDP scheme then it could result in tenants taking them to court if their deposit is not seen to be suitably protected.

James Callaghan, director at Domino Letting, said: “We see the deposit scheme as a very positive step as it moves the more rogue elements of our industry to the margins and promotes best practice between landlord, tenant and agent.”

The Housing Act 2004 Tenancy Deposit states that TDP is in place to ensure that any money intended to be held by the landlord is protected under this system to avoid disputes in the future.
