Landlords Green Deal to go live this week

November 6th, 2012

A significant energy-efficient programme for private sector landlords is set to go to live this week.

The Green Deal will look to upgrade around 10,000 homes across the UK which are seen to be seriously lacking in terms of energy-efficient measures, and will be carried out over the next five years at a cost of £100 million.

Both the Residential Landlords Association (RLA) and Enact Energy have agreed upon the deal, which will target 1.4 million private landlords, to ensure that their properties are up to scratch in terms of reducing the amount of emissions escaping from their homes by offering loans to make required installations.

Alan Ward, who chairs the RLA, said: “We aim to be the major service for Green Deal and ECO (Energy Company Obligation) for the private rental sector and are planning to help up to 10,000 landlords to upgrade their properties over the next five years.”

The National Landlords Association (NLA) recently called on landlords and tenants to work together in order to reach their energy saving targets, which will help to reduce utility bills in the future.
