Landlords gearing up for welfare reform changes

January 24th, 2013

Landlords and councils across the UK are preparing for the forthcoming welfare reform changes that will be phased in the coming months.

The move will see housing associations ordering more allpay swipecards to give to tenants making it much easier to pay rent and council tax through a quick transaction.

Allpay currently works with around 70 per cent of all social landlords and the new system has been earmarked as providing a simple, user-friendly way in which tenants can pay their bills.

It is part of the changes due to be brought about in April which will see the introduction of the household benefit cap which means that those of working age whose rent is currently paid for via housing benefit will have to pay some themselves.

It is yet another boost for landlords across the country following the announced of the Bank of England’s Funding for Lending initiative which is due to plough £80 billion within the economy.
