Snow warning for UK homeowners

February 6th, 2012

Homeowners have been warned to brace themselves for freezing temperatures and possible snow, as the cold weather continues to sweep across the UK.

Cold air has been flooding in from the continent over the past few days, causing temperatures to drop as low as -10 degrees C in some areas last night (February 2nd).

Freezing conditions such as these often bring with them an increased number of homeowner insurance claims, for issues such as burst pipes.

The Met Office is now warning of a mixture of rain, sleet and snow over the UK across the weekend, as this cold weather hits a warm front coming in from the Atlantic.

Paul Gundersen, deputy chief forecaster at the Met Office, said it is uncertain which areas will see the most snowfall, but forecasts currently suggest central and eastern areas could see five to ten cm of snow.

“With this risk of snow and ice over the next few days it is important people stay up to date with our weather forecasts and warnings for the latest information,” he added.

The Association of British Insurers advises that people contact their provider as soon as possible after damage occurs.
