Make a positive first impression on buyers with the entrance hall

February 26th, 2012

Sellers don’t get a second chance to make a first impression with a property, and should not underestimate the importance of an entrance hall.

According to Graham Lock, director and co-founder of online estate agent housenetwork.co.uk, the entrance hall is where buyers will form their opinion on a property, and for this reason it has to be spot on.

“Brighten up the hallway with a light and warm colours, add mirrors to create a spacious feel and remove any unnecessary objects. A simple thing such as fresh flowers and candles can make people feel at home and give a sense of calm,” he explained.

Clutter will make the absolute wrong impression, Mr Lock advised, and anything that has not been used in more than a year should either be stored away out of sight or thrown away.

Selwyn Lim, director of Mouseprice, also recently highlighted that sellers must be competitive if they want to attract potential purchasers, as the number remains low.

The stricter mortgage lending and lower transaction levels mean it is currently a buyers’ market in the UK.
