Burglaries on the rise as the recession hits
As the economy has not fully recovered from the recession, the number of burglaries increases with the high level of unemployment rate.
More than 730 houses are broken into every day in England and Wales - which experts believe is down to recession-hit burglars.
More surprisingly, burglars are now targeting kitchen appliances instead of cash and jewellery. One insurance company reported 50 vacuum cleaners, 26 microwaves, 16 toasters, 15 kettles, 13 tumble dryers and 10 fridges were stolen from their customers’ homes. A senior police officer further warned that we have not yet seen the full extent of the credit crunch crime wave.
It is particularly important to protect everyday items just as much as you would your valuables. One big mistake when making cut-backs during the recession is to fail to take out a home insurance policy.
Home owners can obtain home and contents insurance including cover for theft and malicious damage to protect themselves and their property.
