Warning: Fake Tenancy Deposit Scheme
Landlords and property professionals should be aware of a fake tenancy deposit scheme run by a company named MTD Secure Limited that trades under the name of My Tenancy Deposit (mytenancydeposit.co.uk).
A fake Tenancy Deposit Scheme is found operated by a company named MTD Secure Limited trading as mytenancydeposit.co.uk. It has been warned that this company is not part of Tenancy Deposit Solutions Limited (TDS Ltd) - which is the official Government-authorised Scheme - trading as mydeposits.co.uk.
Public - especially landlords and letting agents - are warned not to use the tenancy deposit schemes that are not authorised by or registered with the Government. By not using the Government-authorised schemes, not only will the deposits not be protected; it can also lead to penalties for landlords.
The governmental registered tenancy deposit schemes comply with the law and have the appropriate legal protection over the tenants’ deposits. Only three schemes in England and Wales are the official schemes authorised by the Government:
- Tenancy Deposit Solutions Limited (mydeposits.co.uk)
- The Deposit Protection Service (depositprotection.com)
- The Dispute Service (thedisputeservice.co.uk)
Landlords or property professionals who had already deposited their funds with MTD Secure Limited are advised to seek legal help immediately as well as choosing to use one of the three authorised schemes listed above.
