Although investors are becoming increasingly optimistic about the recovery of the buy-to-let property market, the demand for new built flats has fallen more than ever.

A property agent reported that only 12% of investors who are planning to increase their property portfolio within the next six months are planning to buy a newly built property compared to 26% in March. Read more…

Research from Paragon Mortgages revealed that the proportion of landlords obtaining a buy-to-let mortgage in order to extend their property portfolio has hit its highest level for almost a decade. 

48% of landlords took out a mortgage in order to extend their portfolio compared with 31% at the end of 2008. On average they owned 12 properties by the third quarter of 2009 as opposed to an average of 11 at the beginning of 2007. Read more…

The Tenant Services Authority (TSA) was appointed by the Government to regulate the new approaches and standards of the social housing sector in April.

The Tenant Services Authority (TSA) proposed the new regulatory approaches to the social housing sector, putting emphasis on the relationship between the landlords and the tenants at a local level. Besides, tenants will be the heart of decisions related to their homes and the services they received from their landlords, this gives the power for tenants to influence, shape and monitor the services delivered by the landlords.

Property asking prices fell in November for the first time in 3 months as owners aimed to sell by the end of the year.

UK’s biggest property website, Rightmove, reported a monthly drop of 1.6% in the property asking prices in November. This change in property prices marked its first drop in three months – with the average asking price standing at £226,440 in November. Read more…

Thousands of student in England are still waiting to receive their student loans and grants weeks into the start of term.

At the start of the month 119,000 students with approved funding applications were still awaiting to receive their loans. A further 23,000 applications were still being processed and 35,000 students were being asked to provide more information. Read more…
